Today's date, live
The box above shows today's full date from your own device, so it's correct for your time zone, wherever you are. Below it you'll find the ISO week number and how far through the year we are. It's one of the most searched questions on the internet, which tells me I'm not the only one who loses track of the date by Wednesday.
What's a week number?
Many businesses, especially in Europe, plan in week numbers. Under the ISO 8601 standard, weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the week that contains the first Thursday of the year. That's why January 1 sometimes belongs to week 52 or 53 of the previous year. Read more in our guide on how many weeks are in a year.
Day of the year
The day of the year (also called the ordinal date) counts from 1 on January 1 to 365, or 366 in leap years. Pilots, scientists and food manufacturers use it a lot. You'll sometimes spot it printed on packaging as part of a 'Julian date' code.
Is today a holiday?
Check our holiday countdowns to see what's coming up next. If you're planning a trip or a deadline, the days until any date calculator will tell you how long you've got.
Why does the date change at different times?
Midnight sweeps around the world one time zone at a time, so for a few hours each day two different dates exist on Earth at once. Kiribati reaches each new day first, and American Samoa and Baker Island are among the last. If you're messaging someone abroad, it may already be tomorrow for them.
